Tales of Adventure

Year 1000 After Crowning

March 28th

Arrived in the village of Taveiro near Haven on March 28th 1000 AC where there was a bounty on a goblin named Razor. Party set out instead for the forgotten ruins of a castle in a desperate search for treasure.

March 29th

Party discovered the palace on March 29th 1000 AC and is locked inside.

March 30th

On March 30th 1000 AC, the party continued the exploration of the mysterious palace. Two barrelling and unarmed Hobgoblins were caught by surprise, and were dispatched relatively quickly. When looting the room they uncovered a health potion.

Their exploration lead them to a cavern beneath the palace where they found several destroyed statues that appeared to have been "protectors" they witnessed in a dream the night of the 28th. In their place a new clay statue has been placed of an eye painted blood red.

Also in the caverns they found an under-fed white ape chained to the walls. They provided some food, including some of Thegwin's finer delicacies. Attempts were made to break the chains and pick the locks, but it was determined doing so would take a substantial amount of time.

A Hexagonal series of chambers were also discovered which was a series of bathing chambers. In the towel room they discovered a gold key (and a cobra) which Abernathy took possession of. In the bathing room they avoided 5 stirges. They passed through a steam room to get to a mosaic room which had a sequence of 2 locks that Abernathy was able unlock using the gold key. This revealed a glowing sword that floated in the air. When Abernathy approached to claim the sword, a powerful knight in black armor that engaged in combat. The party escaped to the steam room and waited. A short time later they heard the sword drop. They concocted a retrieval mechanism with their supplies and pulled the sword into the steam room where it continued to glow, but no longer summoned the knight in black. Abernathy was the first to grip the glowing sword and felt that it was right.

The party re-entered the mosaic room and found another room which held a pedestal and a locket. They swooped the locket into a bag and could feel the chaotic energy emanating from it.

They returned near where the white ape was chained to the wall and found a spot to rest.

March 31st

On March 31st 1000 AC, the party shared a collective dream for a second time. This one had them revisiting the clay statue of the red eye and noticing the red eye resembles the gem from their collective dream a few nights ago. Laughter began emenating from the silver locket they picked up the day before and it can be described as either uncontrollable or tortured. When they wake up the laughter continued.

With no other options the party continued to explore the palace they have become trapped inside. Abernathy and Wendy decide it's best to avoid as many stairs as possible to make travel easier for Thegwin.

They discovered the Captain of the Castle Guard's personal quarters which had smashed furniture. The party concluded that the whoever smashed the furniture didn't have claws. They also found sketches of the eye with blood and "Arik" written over on paper forms in scratchy handwriting. Wendy meditated and after coming out of her trance told Thegwin and Abernathy that they weren't alone. There was another presence in the castle. Thegwin verified using a different meditation technique and mentioned that he heard the phrase "The Eye of Arik" in his trance.

The group revisits the chamber with the clay statue. Thegwin meditated a second time and this time claims to have seen dozens of smaller red eyes behind the statue that fade into nothingness that neither Abernathy nor Wendy saw. Wendy brings the laughing locket closer to the statue of the eye and it starts screaming.

The party moves onto a school room and averts a pit trap in a walk through closet that leads to a library. In both rooms everything is old, but looks new. In the library they encounter a crab spider which Wendy casts Fear on, forcing it to run away.

They also found a semi circular room with crystal statues that hold weapons and don't remain still, but also don't threaten the party as they walked through the room.

They find a tapestry room with a fountain in it. The tapestry has images (and names) of Princess Argenta and Ellis the Strong, the warrior in black platemail. Thegwin suggests to Wendy that they test the locket's reaction by bringing it closer to the tapestry and they notice the laughter isn't as tortured.

Outside of the tapestry they find a secret room where they attempt to battle a tiger beetle, but none are able to land a hit on the creature. The creature however, wounds Wendy and she uses the health potion to partially recover. The party is able to escape and noticed the room contained four statues and a leather bound book.

They also found a corridor that had collapsed, a storeroom of iron rations and a room taken over by greenslime. They rest for the night back at near the collapsed corridor. As they drift to sleep they hear the lockets laughter change to weeping.

March 32nd

On the morning of March 32nd 1000 AC, the clerics perform their meditations and confirm that there is still a presence inside the palace and their is guilt emanating from the heart shaped silver locket.

The party continued to explore and witness a pair of hobgoblins defeat a giant spider, with one saying "That is the last of them." before turning around and walking the other way.

The party's exploration lead to a room with 5 zombies guarding a silver statuette of a dragon taking flight. Both clerics fail their attempt to turn undead. Thegwin and Wendy are pulled away and forced to flee by Abernathy. Two zombies pursue. The party stands their ground using a surprise attack after the hallway turns a corner. Abernathy drives his sword through one of the zombies, but it is not enough vanquish it. He is injured in the melee but the party is able to defeat them.

After defeating the two zombies, Abernathy is healed by Thegwin. The party returns to the room with the remaining 3 zombies and Thegwin successfully casts Turn Undead forcing them to flee away from them.

The group examines the statuette the zombies were guarding and notice that on the base it reads, "Arik's bane, destroyer of evil." The value of the statue is estimated at 500 gold pieces.

The party also checks on the locket which has resumed its laughter.

They continue on and fine a music room. In the music room they found a harp, and several tapestries illustrating a woman playing the harp, each show her plucking the harp with two fingers (each on separate strings). Wendy plucks one string and nothing happens.

They listen at different door in the music room than they entered in through, and hear the skittering of furry rodents. After opening the door to find a butcher's room with a floor covered in blood stained sand. The sound of the creatures is coming from beneath the stand.

The party decides to throw in some of the furniture from the music room and triggers a trap door which is what the rodents were beneath and they fall with the furniture.

They explore a little further and find a meat cellar off the butcher's room and across the hallway from the butchers room they find a book shelf that they suspect is a secret door, but they will investigate more in the morning. They make camp in the music room with the remaining furniture.

March 33rd

On March 33rd 1000 AC the party finds themselves in the fifth day of being trapped in the palace. They investigate bookshelf that is full of artificial books (ones that can't be removed from the shelves) and 1 real book (a journal). Removing the journal opens the door to a zen garden of blue sand. On the far wall is a chalk outline of a door.

Before investigating the image on the far wall, Wendy breaks one of the patterns in the sand. The locket objects and then Wendy falls into the sand when she tries to fix her original defacement.

At the chalk image of the door they find some writing which says, "Ynn by way of the Silver Palace." They attempt to retrace the letters, but nothing happens.

Before leaving, Thegwin suggests playing the harp again, and at Wendy's suggestion plays it how the musician is depicted playing it on the tapestries in the music room. This summons a fae woman named Rowena. She tells the party about the events of that fateful day. The gift the dwarves gave to Princess Argenta was actually an eye of an evil creature named Arik who is imprisoned in a different dimension. Every once and a while one of his numerous eyes escapes the confinement and causes chaos. Ellis the Strong and his dragon Ariksbane tracked it down here, but it was too late. She suspected that the palace vizier, Silverheart, was trying to summon Arik. She also confirms that the locket was his, and he may have put a piece of himself in it, but not his entire self.

Additionally, she explains that there are at least 3 dragon statuettes and putting 3 together will restore Ariksbane.

There are forces in the palace who are trying to summon Arik out of his prison. It is potentially being headed up by an evil cleric.

She also explains about Ynn, a perpendicular word or extradimensional garden. Summoning a door requires special magic chalk and drawing a door on a garden wall. The door must have the words "Ynn by way of..." wherever they currently are.

After Rowena departed, the party continued their explorations finding a fitting room. They also revisit the library, school room and the room of the captain of the guard. On re-inspection there, they come to the conclusion that the guard was murdered.

Exploring a little more they entered an empty baracks that had the warning "Beware of Travis" scrawled on the wall. At that point, Travis burst out from his place of hiding and fought to the death. Abernathy picked up a dagger which has +1 to hit if used in melee, but a +2 to hit if thrown.

The party stopped for the day in the barracks.

March 34th

On March 34th 1000 AC Abernathy and the other members of the party continued to explore the castle and find a room full of statue soldiers standing at attention. After inspecting them the group concludes they have been transformed into stone. This is also where the Captain of the Guard's body was moved to by Travis.

Moving on from that room they find another spy hole further down the hall way and learn that there is a wolf in the room. Thegwin insists there is treasure in the room and the party obliges him to lead the way. On entering the room the wolf surprises them with an attack, and they are able to eliminate the threat quickly.

The party confirms that this was Travis's private quarters, and Thegwin finds a treasure: 2 saphires 300 each and 1 large emerald 2000 gp and a gold ring with the initials DB carved on the inside.

They continue exploring and find the administration office of the Captain of the Guard, which appeared to have been taken over by Travis who had been imitating the Captain's paper work, but not well.

Adjoined to this room was a barracks of orcs. The party set a trap for the orcs in the office which would separate them into two groups. They defeated both groups but the combat could have gone to either side.

They party returned to Travis's quarters to rest and heal.

March 35th

On March 35th 1000 AC the party explore a portion of the southwest portion of the Silver Palace. They find more statues of people, entered combat with a troglodyte and came out victorious, discovered a way to the second story, and found a second dragon statuette. They also found a a swarm of cave locusts which Abernathy was able to lure one over to a dangerous yellow mold which the cave locust consumed.

Honestly, good on the grasshopper. I always knew he could do it.

After clearing the path Abernathy wades into a purple pool (after removing most of his clothing) while Wendy Pestle and Thegwin Dreggs wait on dry ground. At the other end he finds a statue painted in gold, but has eyes made of rubies. After removing those, he discovers that the statue's head can be removed. He hear's Thegwin call from the far end of the cavern if he found the gold. Abernathy responded with:

The gold was a lie, but I have a good idea that can't go wrong.

He removes the statue's head finds inside an oiled skin bag and inside is a single magical ring.

The party returns to the nearest barracks to rest.

April 1st

Party 3 decides to explore the southwestern portion of the first level of the palace, where they find a series of jail cells. Just outside of the cells, and trapped in a secured passageway are two White Apes.

Thegwin Dreggs converses with them using his magical ability. The conversation produces a treasure chest that once belonged to Travis and the release of the apes who were recruited as protection for the party in order to explore the center of the palace (which the party had been avoiding).

After leaving the apes by the butcher's meat cave the party were attacked by the crystal statues they encountered on March 31st in the semi-circular room.

In one section Abernathy spots a body holding a bag within a sulfuric pool and asks Wendy to retrieve it. Inside are 133 gp, a silver wolf headed ring with 2 small sapphires for eyes (300 gp).

The party rests in the iron ration room.

April 2nd

Party 3 begins their exploration of the second floor. They encounter a pair of floating swords dueling with each other. Abernathy dispells the illusion when he makes contact with them.

They explore a laboratory that has an iron statue.

They enter a bedroom and find a kitten with an unusually deep growl. They learn that the room belonged to Mirabalis and that the laboratory was also his. The party finds Mirabalis or a stone version of him in a sideroom.

Thegwin Dreggs is able to figure out that the kitten the Mirabalis's familiar and it is capable of transforming into panther. Thegwin begins calling the kitten Sheba and relays that the iron statue in the laboratory will attack if provoked and if metal touches the statue it will stick to the statue forever.

The party meets two new people, Candella and Duchess. The suspicious duo join the party to combat a doppelganger disguised as Mirabalis. The party finds a place to rest of the night, but make their new friends sleep in a different location.

April 3rd

After finding a garden of carnivorous plants, Abernathy, Candella and Duchess run back to the laboratory and pick up some of the taxidermy animals; a squirrel, owl, otter and a possum.
